Work Trip Denver

Denver Airport

I just returned home from a work trip to Denver. The Airport is about 40 minutes away from downtown and out in the middle of nowhere. This is what you see when you come up to it. It's cool and weird too. The white peaks look like fabric up close and inside they are ceilings of white and metal. Strange but unique. The building on the left is the Westin Hotel and it looks like a pair of lips when you drive in. I'm not sure but maybe it's wings?

Denver had beautiful weather the week we were there. High 60's during the day but upon arrival, the wind was intense and the sky was all brown from the dirt blowing all around.

Glad to be home and I'm ready to work in the garden. Well... Not quite yet. The temp is 18 with a high of 30. SOON! 

Abandoned Gravestones

Here's more snaps of the abandoned grave yard. I am so curious as to who they were and if they still have family around here.

I think my next trip past, I'll try and sneak in and take some close ups. I have a feeling there are more stones flat on the ground that could be of interest.

My birthday is tomorrow and I decided to stay home from work to prepare. 56 - Can't believe I'm this old. I feel 25.

Some snap shots of my past few weeks. Bobby and I once again traveled to Sarasota for one of my work trips. This time the weather was absolutely fabulous all week.

The shot of the "Closed Road" is were the abandoned road comes into play. When ever I have time on my walks, I take this short cut. They just recently cut down all the trees on a portion of this road so I am not sure how long it will be private. We'll see.

The last shot is behind the office building I work. I take noon walks and there is a creek that runs along side the path. Is February too soon for a warm up? I think it is.

Still Nico free but lately I've been counting a lot. What I mean is when ever I have a craving, I count to ten.

Geraniums

Geraniums - These flowers last all the way through to frost. I plant them from seed each year and they have beautiful blooms all summer long. I have a variety pack so I never know the color until they bloom. Once, there was a yellow bloom.

I have spring fever and spring is still a few weeks away. I've started my flower seeds indoors and quite a few have sprouted. Cute tiny bright green leaves are everywhere in my spare bedroom.

MicroGreens - Grown Indoor

Swiss Chard

I might of mentioned growing Microgreens indoor before but it's worth repeating.

They grow very fast and are packed full of nutrients. Just snip and toss in your salad or on a sandwich. The Swiss Chard you can let grow until it has 4 leaves but the others, snip at will. I grow, Turnip, Beet, Mustard, Radish, Chinese Cabbage and what ever lettuce seeds I have. Use regular potting soil and wala!

It was 60 degrees here yesterday. All of Chicago was outside and of course, wearing shorts. Crazy weather.

Old Abandoned Graveyard

I guess old graveyards could be abandoned if you no longer add anyone to them. This small spot is on a section right before the closed off road that makes me stop and look each time I walk by. Someone mows the grass in the summer but all the stones are really old except for the large gray newer stone. Someone replaced it as you can read the names and dates. Caroline Erb was only 47 when she passed. Her husband lived on to the age of 87. They must have family still in the area that replaced the stone. Hmmm.... Interesting.

Closed Road

This is a picture of a road that was blocked off about 15 years ago. No one drives on it anymore. It was a through way side street that for some reason, the city decided to block from traffic. Not exactly sure why but it makes for a nice walk in the morning.

As you can see, nature is taking it back. This was taken on January 1st, 2017 and it was a quiet and crisp morning. I'm walking a lot every day to prep for spring running. I'm hoping to once again, "Run like the wind".

A road without cars will turn back into it's original field.
